Virtual happy hours, binge watching, and memes have kept us from going entirely stir crazy…well almost anyway. However, we are just a few weeks into social distancing and it seems that our new housebound lifestyle is having some unwanted consequences. Lack of movement coupled with loads of snacking have made it more challenging than ever to keep off unwanted weight that some are calling “the covid-19 (pounds).”

Here comes the internet to the rescue again! There are all sorts of online health and fitness options to help you move more, get strong, and eat right. This is a very, very good thing! You can even hire an online personal trainer or nutritionist to be your partner in your health. However, now more than ever, you need to continue to be an educated consumer.

Before you hire anyone to be your new online fitness or nutrition guru, I encourage you to start with two very simple questions. What is this person's background and are they best person to help me reach my goals? With so many people out of work, many are turning to potential source of income outside of their areas expertise. Nowhere is this more prevalent than the fitness industry.

Now is a great time to focus on your health and to hire a trainer. I ask that when you choose the person to help you strengthen yourself, please also help to strengthen the fitness industry. These are people who chose health and fitness as a career at a time when they had a multitude of other paths to follow. Seek them out and I promise you’ll find a trainer who’s passion extends well beyond having a hobby or a great physique. You’ll find someone with the knowledge, enthusiasm and experience to help you make the most of the time and money that you dedicate to your wellness.
